THE LIST | Terri Organic Vegetarian


One of NYC’s newest vegetarian sandwich shops, small but light and inviting, Terri Organic Vegetarian boasts a menu that looks promising — promising enough to get me in the door and seated at the counter, waiting for a Roasted Vegetable Sandwich (eggplant, squash, zucchini, sun-dried tomato, kalamata olives and peppers, doused in a light vinaigrette).

Serving sandwiches, wraps, salads, shakes, smoothies and various other goodies, Terri offers something for vegetarians and pure vegetarians alike. Daiya appears often (Grilled Cheese or the Quesadilla, for example), and so does Vegenaise, two of my favorite vegan alternative ingredients. During my visit I opted for the roasted veggies but there are plenty of meaty options, like the Buffalo Chicken or Thanksgiving sandwiches (both are vegan).

THE LIST Rating Scale
Stinker — Don’t bother
Maybe — Some nice options but I wouldn’t write home about it
Winner — Almost a True Winner, but there’s still something missing
True Winner — Best of the best, take a meat eater and watch them rave

The Verdict: Maybe
Terri undoubtedly offers some very nice pure veg options. The atmosphere is incredibly pleasant and so are the workers, and my Roasted Vegetable Sandwich was tasty, although mostly forgettable and didn't quite have that homemade, fresh-roasted taste. I would go back to try some of the meatier options, shakes and cupcakes, and rethink The Verdict if I found myself in the neighborhood again — I’m just not particularly dying to go back.

  2. That sounds good! I'll have to go back and try some of the other menu items. But I'm pretty picky -- I cook and make vegan cupcakes (Sweeties New York Pastry Co.) so I'm a pretty tough judge when it comes to vegan food and treats ;)
